FAQs

  • The counselling process is unique to the person receiving support. It is an entirely voluntary process and you can withdraw or resume at any time. It is normal for counselling to take anywhere from 1-3 sessions to several years, depending upon your circumstance and goals. Typically, we start counselling on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and when you’re feeling better or getting a handle on your goals we can transition to fewer sessions. I don’t prescribe how often you should come to counselling. I trust that you know what you need and what will work best for you. That being said, the majority of my clients book weekly or bi-weekly and then later reassess if they want to start coming more or less frequently. It really depends on your specific needs and what you can afford.

  • The cost of counselling is based on industry recommended fee guidelines. Fees are subject to increase annually at the beginning of each calendar year. All fees are outlined on the booking page when you choose your appointment date/type.

Direct billing is not offered at this time, but once you submit payment for your session you will receive an electronic receipt that will have all the information you need to submit a claim to your provider for reimbursement.

If you have coverage through a third-party payer/provider, you may be required to pay the difference if there is a balance remaining. Examples of third-party payers include, but are not limited to ICBC, FNHA, and CVAP.

Receipt of payment is REQUIRED prior to your scheduled appointment. All major credit cards and e-transfer will be accepted. If paying by e-transfer, please send the e-transfer to info@lokahiwellnesscollective.ca. All clients agree to have their payment card(s) information saved to file for a future transaction on their account.

  • Clinical counsellor fees are not covered by MSP but may be completely or partially covered by your extended medical plan or possibly deducted as a medical expense on income taxes. Please speak to your insurance plan provider and financial advisor to determine your eligibility.

  • Yes. Confidentiality within the counselling relationship is of high importance. Information about counselling sessions will not be released to anyone without your informed, voluntary, and written consent. My goal is to establish safety and trust so that you feel free to share your experiences honestly, and perhaps speak about things you don’t feel comfortable disclosing to anyone else.

However, there are a few exceptions to confidentiality that you should be aware of, in which a counsellor is legally bound to break confidentiality, this includes:

    • When there may be imminent danger or harm to yourself or others,

    • When there is suspicion or disclosure of abuse of vulnerable persons, such as a child or elderly person, and

    • When records are subpoenaed by court order.

  • A minimum of 48 hours’ notice by phone or email is required for appointment cancellation or rescheduling. Sessions with less than 48-hours’ notice are subject to be billed at half of the session fee; sessions with less than 24-hours’ notice and no-shows are charged at the full session fee. Appointments are considered “no-shows” when a client is later than 15 minutes from their session start time. Further sessions will not be booked until the fee is paid in full. There is no penalty for changing an in-person session to a virtual session, even at the last minute.

  • Our office is located at 125-3030 Pandosy Street, inside Innovative Fitness in the Sopa Square building, in Kelowna, BC.

  • When coming to our office for in person counselling sessions, it's best to try and find street parking nearby on Pandosy Street or Groves Avenue. Some sections are paid, but closer to Abbott Street, you'll find free two-hour parking. Please note that parking in the back lot managed by Diamond Parking can be quite costly, so it’s a good idea to arrive early to secure a spot on the street.
